15 mistakes everyone makes when cooking eggs

Egg is a natural, nutritious food which is rich in proteins. This miracle food is an important breakfast ingredient in many of our homes. Scramble them soft or boil them hard, eggs can be cooked in a various ways. It is not as easy as one thinks to cook eggs the right way. When it comes to cooking eggs, we all make many mistakes . Here are some the mistakes we make while cooking eggs and tips for doing your egg-cooking perfectly.

Mistakes to avoid with Scrambled Eggs

Who doesn’t love a quick, tummy filling breakfast especially when you are rushing in the busy mornings? Well, here is how you make the scrambled eggs softer.

A cast-iron pan

Never ever use it. It just makes it inedible as the eggs stick to the pan. To avoid the mess, always choose nonstick pan to cook scrambled eggs.

A high heat to cook eggs

Eggs get dried out on cooking them over high heat. Ideal way is to pre heat the pan over medium heat & upon adding eggs, reduce it medium-low. This helps in cooking the eggs evenly as the rate of cooking the eggs can be controlled.

Scrambling eggs in the pan

Doing so just makes the dish look bad as the eggs don’t mix evenly. You might be thinking of saving time but make sure you mix your eggs well in a bowl before adding them to the pan.

Keeping eggs untouched in the pan

Do not leave the eggs untouched in the pan as the heat cooks the eggs faster resulting in a crust formation quickly at the bottom of the pan that would dry up the dish.

Letting the eggs overcook

Like mentioned, more heat causes the eggs to dry out. So, quickly transfer the eggs to a serving plate immediately once the eggs are done. You could use aluminum foil to cover it loosely in order to keep it warm in case you are serving later.

Poached Eggs

Oh yes! It looks challenging to get this done in the typical restaurant-style. But wait, just do it without these mistakes & you can have it deliciously made in your own homes.

Not using complete fresh eggs

You need the whites bound together to get the dishes held together. Old eggs have thin whites that separate into strands while poaching. So always use fresh ones.

Adding eggs directly into water

By gently letting the eggs into water with soft touch you can avoid cracking the egg. Like no splash at all! A small crack and delicately putting them in water should be good enough.

Adding the vinegar at first

Though most recipes suggest adding vinegar in cooking water before adding eggs, try adding the vinegar over the eggs before putting them in water so that the acidity in vinegar tends to bind better. It stays more concentrated.

Adding egg to either too hot or too cold water

Full boil water means too much hot so it breaks the whites. In the contrast, if water is sufficiently hot, it separates the white from the yolk. Therefore, in gentle simmer(with few bubbles at the bottom), put the eggs gently.

Seasoning the water

Again, salt too breaks down the food in water. Since you need the whites to bind, do not add salt. Rather, season it after cooking.

Mistakes To avoid With Boiled Eggs

A perfect boiled egg is one which has firm whites and creamy yolks. Let’s look at the mistakes to avoid and produce the perfect boiled eggs.

Adding eggs in hot water

When put in hot water, especially the cold refrigerated eggs, they crack due to heat. Therefore, just keep the eggs in pot first & pour cold water.

Leaving eggs in a boil

This overcooks the eggs. To prevent, take off the pot from heat when the water boils. The heat already present cooks the eggs gently. You may keep it for 5-10 minutes depending on the softness you need.

Leaving it there for too long

Now don’t leave the eggs in hot water for too long as the eggs tend to get rubbery. Make sure you keep a note of time.

Peeling eggs while hot

Cooling lets egg to separate from its shell thus making peeling an easier task.

Too many eggs in the pot

To have an even cooking, avoid putting too many eggs in the pot at the same time.
